Sell Only Mode (SOM) helps protect ProfitTrailer during significant
market movements or unusual trading activity.
All cryptocurrencies are valued against a base trading pair. A
significant rise or fall in the base trading pair can cause the value
of other coins to move sharply.The base trading pair used by the price triggers is defined with
price_trigger_pair.ProfitTrailer monitors this pair to determine whether its price has
increased or decreased enough to trigger Sell Only Mode. By default,
the bot looks back over 24 hours. You can adjust this period with
SOM_trigger_length, which defines the number of 5-minute candles to
inspect.ProfitTrailer also monitors buying and selling activity. During
periods of high or low volatility, unusual numbers of consecutive buys
or sells can trigger SOM.SOM triggers are optional risk-management settings. Configure them
carefully based on your trading strategy.When SOM is enabled, ProfitTrailer stops making new purchases but
continues to make sales.The examples below assume:
price_trigger_pair = BTC
SOM can also be enabled or disabled manually by clicking the SOM
button in the browser footer.

If the price of the base pair defined by price_trigger_pair rises by a
significant amount, SOM is enabled.
SOM is disabled automatically once the price returns to the configured
recovery level.
# Protect against Bitcoin rising sharply by automatically enabling/disabling SOM.
price_rise_trigger = 7
price_rise_recover_trigger = 6
See Price Rise Trigger for details about
these settings.
If the price of the base pair defined by price_trigger_pair falls by a
significant amount, SOM is enabled.
SOM is disabled automatically once the price returns to the configured
recovery level.
# Protect against Bitcoin dropping sharply by automatically enabling/disabling SOM.
price_drop_trigger = 10
price_drop_recover_trigger = 3
See Price Drop Trigger for details about
these settings.
When the market is moving sideways and the base trading pair remains
range-bound, you might choose to enable SOM. This prevents the bot from
buying more coins until a clearer upward or downward trend develops.
This approach can help avoid buying during the early stages of a larger
downward move.
If the bot detects a significant number of buys without enough sales in
between, SOM is enabled to reduce exposure during unusual market
activity.
# Protect against large market swings by enabling Sell Only Mode.
consecutive_buy_trigger = 6
# Disable Sell Only Mode after this many consecutive sells with no buys in between.
consecutive_sell_trigger = 4
See Consecutive Trigger for details
about these settings.
Using the example above, the consecutive-buy logic works as follows:
buy → buy → buy → buy → buy → buysell → sell → sell → sellAdvanced traders might choose to override SOM protection based on their
trading strategy and risk tolerance.
To determine why SOM is active:
For example, if price_rise_trigger is set to 4, but the market has
risen by 5%, increase the trigger above 5%. The corresponding
price_rise_recover_trigger must also be adjusted appropriately.
You can also enable or disable SOM manually using the SOM button in
the browser footer.

Important: The options below only work if you have configured a
password for the ProfitTrailer GUI.
Open:
http://localhost:8081/settings/sellOnlyMode?type=&enabled=false
Replace port 8081 with the port used by your bot.
This disables global Sell Only Mode temporarily. SOM will activate again
on the next buy attempt if the trigger condition is still true.
Open:
http://localhost:8081/settings/overrideSellOnlyMode?enabled=false
Replace port 8081 with the port used by your bot.
Sell Only Mode will remain disabled until you reset the override or
restart the bot.
Open:
http://localhost:8081/settings/overrideSellOnlyMode
Replace port 8081 with the port used by your bot.
You can also reset the override by restarting the bot.
- Resetting a live bot does not disable consecutive SOM because this
state is based on trade history.- Resetting or restarting a test bot resets its consecutive SOM
state.- Messages related to the current SOM state can appear in the PBL
and other logs.- ProfitTrailer maintains the SOM state to avoid incorrectly
enabling or disabling Sell Only Mode.- Refer to the Web Interface Guide if you are unsure what a
SOM-related message means.
A common SOM message is:
SOM STATE UNKNOWN
This means ProfitTrailer does not currently have enough exchange data to
determine the SOM state for the trading pair.
Check the following:
SOM_trigger_length and your Sell Only Mode settings are0 where supported if you want to disable a setting.
